Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (or OT as it is often referred to) is a health care profession which provides services to those whose ability to function has been disrupted by developmental problems, trauma, congenital/ genetic disorders, illness, injury or disease.
Occupation, for Occupational Therapists, means how a person occupies his/ her time in day to day living activities.

Our Occupational Therapists
Our Occupational Therapists are university trained in a four year Occupational Therapy program. All OT’s complete a minimum of 1000 hours of supervised clinical practice. OTs must pass the national certification exam and be registered with the College of Ontario. At Skill Builders Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre, all of our Occupational Therapists have furthered their education through post graduate training programs which include specializations such as Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT certifications), elections into the cognitive rehabilitation society and cognitive rehabilitation. Our OTs have extensive experience working with clients with soft tissue injuries, brain injuries, spine problems, fractures, hand injuries and complex cases.

Patient education including injury prevention, safety in the home, ergonomics, body mechanics, work simplification, joint protection, energy conservation, relaxation/ pain management and coping with cognitive difficulties

Home modification assessments and recommendations

Driving evaluations including driver and passenger assessments, vehicle modifications, van prescriptions, all terrain vehicle assessments, bus and transport truck assessments and driving anxiety – see the driver rehabilitation page for more information regarding this specialty program.
